Finding Your Creative Identity

In this world of social media, it’s easy to begin to lose your creative edge because you’re constantly consuming artistic inspiration from others.

Within the sea of creative expression, you may begin to struggle with your own creativity by comparing your work to others or even worse begin to adopt certain techniques, styles or designs as your own.

How do you separate yourself from the endless stream of creative images? How do you stand out of the crowded space of the internet? How do you find your authentic voice when everybody is screaming at the same volume to be seen?

I find it helpful to step back and tune out of the chaos. Turn off your phone, laptop or tablet. Step into nature. Visit a park or museum. Socialize with friends. Spend time alone. Listen to music. Read a good book.

These simple pleasures will balance your life as well as enhance your creative identity. You will be inspired to create or invent new things. You will discover or explore new strategies and methods of doing things as well as scheduling time to do the things you enjoy.

Some of my best creations were formed incidentally but it’s also great to create with intention and vision. When you see something in your imagination and follow through to manifest what you envision, it stimulates excitement and a sense of accomplishment.

When you can take a blank canvas and transform it into a tangible painting or drawing, it is awe-inspiring. It somehow feels magical.

However, the most exceptional or innovative minds are often misunderstood, devalued, rejected or even abused by others due to their lack of understanding of the creator’s concept, idea or vision. If it has never been done before, the masses will most likely reject it.

It’s also a process to develop a new-found idea. You may spend weeks, months or years tweaking and perfecting a passion project, product or design. You must not overthink the process. Get out of your own head but be willing to critique your work fairly and not judgmentally. There are enough critical thinkers that will definitely do that for you when you release your creative contribution to the world.

Deep down inside, in your creative soul, there is beauty. Once you dig deep inside to connect with it instead of looking outside of yourself and embracing the world around you, you will find your true creative identity. You were born with it.

If society has striped you from your authentic self, try to remember what you enjoyed doing at 5 years old. Your identity is not tied to being a carbon copy of someone else.

Your creative soul should not fear opportunities of stepping out of your comfort zones and expressing who you truly are. You should enjoy the process and the journey.

Once you connect with your creative identity, you will soar to higher altitudes to produce and lead with authority, confidence and self-acceptance.

Be bold. Be courageous. Get creative. Be you.

Life by Design: The Art of Creativity

Creating art is such an intimate, spiritual activity. When you tap into your inner soul, creativity, innovation and imagination emerge from the act or process of self-expression. Whether you live in a robust, fast-paced city, remote town or somewhere in-between, there’s living art all around you. You may find inspiration under a wispy tree, a crowded subway or Marta train. However, you shouldn’t wait for your muse to hit. The process of creativity is unlimited and continuously flowing even if you physically don’t feel like creating.

You may go through a slump period but you shouldn’t allow your emotions to dictate your productivity. Sometimes, the best time to create is when you’re emotionally-charged. You may feel sad, angry, stressed or frustrated however you can extract a beautiful piece of art from the deepest, darkest places from your being.

Art & Photo Magazines

The voice of your work speaks to your audience whether you’re a chef, musician, artist, designer or writer. Participating in varied activities and life experiences expand your perspective and vantage point. The opportunity to explore and discover new people, places, and things nurture creativity. Museums, concerts or even different types of restaurants provides a palette of flavor and diversity.

Take into account what motivates you. It can be the simplest thing such as a colorful painting on a white wall, clean lines at an art gallery or the organized chaos at a coffee shop.

At the center of all creation, begins and ends with the heart. It connects to the human experience no matter how obscure or abstract. When you are true to your nature by silencing your ego and allowing yourself the freedom to be, you’re creating in your divine essence. By letting go of low expectations, fear, false or distorted self-images, doubts, and procrastination, you release the negative mindsets created by the outside world. It’s an oxymoron. Through opposition, you can find balance. Opposites attract.

The gift of creativity is actively participating in a vivid, colorful life while transforming every intricate part of your personal thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences into a mosaic landscape of self-expression.

Transformation in Digital Art

When computers were easing its way into the homes and lives of everyday people, digital art was not recognized as a traditional art form. It’s not exactly known when graphic design found its place in the art community as a serious art medium.

As websites became the norm, graphic art became widely accepted in the technical mainstream. Over time, it has transformed into many areas. Infographics merge powerful images, charts or graphs with content. You will see digital art displayed in magazines, t-shirts, jewelry, animation, video games, apps, social media, traditional books and e-books, photo imaging and other publications and promotional products.

Computer art has become so popular that they have online websites that provide template layouts and banner creation sites like to help you produce professional images for your business or personal use. Even the use of digital photography provides unlimited possibilities to alter or manipulate images to create a picture. Fractal Art provides a new element in aesthetic value for mathematical design.

There are many types of computer software to create and enhance the digital artwork. The most popular are Adobe Suite which consists of Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and InDesign. This package helps create graphics and assists in page layout design. There is highly technical software such as Autodesk packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhinoceros and Sketchbook Pro. For photo imaging, there is Corel Paintshop, Gimp, Photoscape, Paint, Phase One Capture, Pixelmator and many other options.

There are absolutely no limits. Digital technology is opening up new doors for craftsmanship and manufacturing to merge harmoniously. Three-dimensional (3D) printing is widely used within the healthcare and architecture field. It is used to create prototypes to create dental implants, prosthetics, and even artificial organs while also renderings models for modern buildings and peripheral urban landscape settings.

Digital fabrication is pushing the limits in construction technology. The art of innovation has provided designers access to research different materials that have unlimited potential and endless possibilities to new fabrication methods. With such a rapid growth in technology, one can only imagine what will be the next phase in digital art.
